The Trentonian, Robert E. Alston Robert E. Alston, 60 of Lawrenceville, departed this life on November 12, 2013 at Moss Rehabilitation Center at Einstein, Elkins Park, PA. Born in Henderson, NC, he was a longtime area resident, living in Trenton for close to 20 years before moving to Lawrenceville, N.J. Robert graduated from J.P. Stevens High School in Edison, NJ and earned his Bachelor of Science degree at The College of New Jersey (Trenton State College). He also graduated from the Tri-State Institute for Training and Development which was sponsored by the Rutgers University Graduate School of Education. He received a New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped certificate for grades K-12. Robert worked as a financial aid officer at TCNJ for 34 years. He was proud of achieving the position of associate director of financial aid. Robert was an active member of the Delta Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Robert's community involvement included serving as president of the West End Little League and on Trenton Mayor Palmer's Youth Services Commission, the Board of Isles, Inc. the Jamesburg Board of Trustees and the Community Planning and Initiatives Committee for the United Way of Mercer County. Robert also served as a Lawrence Township emergency first responder. Robert was recognized numerous times for outstanding achievement. Among his awards are the following: Raritan Valley Community College- Cultural Diversity Award; The College of New Jersey (Trenton State College)- Mentor of the Year Award; Private Milton L. Olive Organization - Life Award; College Union Board - Outstanding Minority Staff; New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund Professional Association- Alumni of the Year Award; West End Little League - Service and Outstanding Man in America Award; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. - Outstanding Educator Award; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Iota Gamma Chapter - Community Award; Union Industrial Home Fatherhood Program/2013 Annual Legacy of Fatherhood Platinum Dads Award and Aspira-ETS Collaboration Award. He was a mentor and a workshop facilitator for the Shiloh Baptist Church Community Development Corporation and for 23 plus years presented yearly on financial aid at the Young Scholars' Institute's College Admission, Financial Aid and Career Planning Workshops. Son of the late James Early Alston and Betty Mae Alston, and brother of the late Kelvin and Ronnie Alston; Robert is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gloria Purnell Alston; a son, Robert II, and two daughters, Shana and Megan; three grandchildren, Sydney Violet, Gabrielle Lynn and Shaun Balkcom; a son-in-law, Vashean Balkcom; a sister, Darlene Lyons (Michael); a brother, Angelo Wayne Alston (Regina), both of Edison, NJ; two brothers-in-law, Stefan Purnell of Trenton and Earl Purnell of Flushing, N.Y. and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

The Trentonian, George R. Prutky HAMILTON - George R. Prutky, 87, of Hamilton passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born at home in Hamilton (Cornell Heights, formerly East Trenton Heights), he was a life-long area resident. George was a graduate of Hamilton High School (West) and was a member of the annual reunion planning committee. He served in the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marines during World War II, after high school graduation. He returned home to join is brother, Millard, to support the family business delivering bleach door-to-door. His sister, Evelyn, cared for their mother, vegetable garden, worked in the family business and raised chickens. Their family sold the eggs and he enjoyed having eggs for Sunday dinner as a boy. The family business changed with the times by purchasing other businesses and forming a landmark in Hamilton Township called White House Chemical & Supply, which sold cleaning supplies, pool supplies and services. His son, Richard, later owned the business which became White House Pool & Spa. George met the love of his life, Dorothy Snincsak, and proposed in St. Patrick's Cathedral. She was his wonderful wife, and dancing partner. They enjoyed many polka weekends, and enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad. They had 59 wonderful years together and he would always call her, "My Dot, my love". His strong faith was evident in his support of his church, Our Lady of Sorrows, where he was a regular church usher, cleaned the church chapel and was recognized for his 50 year annual retreat attendance at St. Joseph's in the Hills, Malvern, PA. George cared deeply for others and was recognized by the Washington Hamilton Rotary as a charter member for his many contributions to the community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, German American Club, and Hamilton singing group where he loved to sing. Another passion was gardening, where he planted many holly bushes and trees on his property as well as on township property, known as George's little park. Through the challenges in life he would always keep a positive outlook by his expression, "Life in the pursuit of happiness". We will miss George's love of life and his devotion to his family, friends and faith.

Growing up in Bordentown, she raised her family in New Jersey and Illinois before moving to Florida in 1988. June will always be remembered as a very giving person who always made each and every person that she came in contact with feel warm and welcomed into her home. She had a passion of reading and loved sharing her wonderful sense of humor with others. She was the daughter of the late John R. Kelly and Mary Anne Capitani (Kelly) she is predeceased by her sister, Leona Zendrosky, she is survived by her three wonderful children, Jeffrey J. Born in Girardville, PA, he grew up in Ringwald, PA, and resided in Chesterfield for the past fifty years. Mr. Zelli was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He retired in 1980 after more than thirty years from DeLaval Turbine, Hamilton, NJ, He was the owner/operator of Zelli's Christmas Tree Farm, Chesterfield, NJ for fifteen years until 1989. Former member of the Bordentown Elks. Mr. Zelli had a love for music and played the Organ, Piano and Accordion. Born on the fourth of July in Greenville, AL, S he came to Trenton, in the mid- 1960s to provide a better life for her family. Beatrice retired after 28 years of service from the Nassau Inn in Princeton. She served as the shop steward for Local 54 and Local 741. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Mother's and Missionaries' Ministries. Daughter of the late Fletcher and Mable Lee Brown, mother of the late Paul Darryl Whitehurst and sister of the late Mendee Sr. and Wrenderbe. She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn McCoy (Robert), Iva McBride (Aula), and Pamela Clark (Stanley); her grandchildren, Clanethia and Anthony Averhart, Akira and Tia Clark; great grandchildren, Devin, Amir, Paul and Najee Averhart, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The Trentonian, Maurice T. "Maury" Perilli HAMILTON SQUARE -Maurice T. "Maury" Perilli, 95, of Hamilton Square passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 25, 2013. He was born in Trenton to Armando and Agnes (Vannozzi) Perilli and was one of five children. His career in printing began at the age of seven when he was setting hand type in his father's small newspaper and commercial printing business. As a child, he attended and was a graduate of Immaculate Conception, Class of 1936. During the Depression, Maurice kept the family business afloat while his father recovered from a long illness. After his father's recovery, he took various jobs, one of which was that of a linotype operator for the Commercial Printing Company, as well as other jobs with a series of other weekly newspapers. An honorably discharged veteran of World War II who served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-1945, he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his service, he was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, the World War II Victory Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Ribbon. After his discharge, he returned to Chambersburg..."his roots" and back to Commercial Printing. During the ensuing years, he started Abco Printing in Hamilton Township and bought Commercial Printing Company and simultaneously established Photo-Offset Publishing Company in Hamilton Township. The purchase of The Mercer Messenger soon followed, as well as the acquisition of an Italian-language newspaper, La Nuova Capitale. Mr. Perilli served on the Hamilton Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Hamilton Township Planning Board and the Mercer County Mosquito Commission. In 1960, he was elected to a seat on the Hamilton Township Committee, to which he was re-elected for four succeeding three-year terms. During that time, he served four years as Mayor and eight years as Police Commissioner. During both his political and business careers, he has received numerous honors and awards, among which are the Star of Solidarity and the degree of "Commendatore" by the Italian government for his work in Italian charities. Mr. Perilli is a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 31, New Jersey Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association, Hamilton Elks, the 200 Club of Mercer County, a Trustee of Crime Stoppers of Greater Trenton and a member of the Hamilton Partnership. He was chosen "Man of the Year" by the Hamilton Area YMCA; "Volunteer of the Year" by the Mercer Unit of the American Cancer Society; received the "Humanitarian Award" from The National Conference of New Jersey; the "Angel Award" by Project Freedom and was recognized as ""Man of the Year" by the Italian American National Hall of Fame into which he was later inducted in 2001. Mr. Perilli has served on the Board of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton since 1970 when it was known as Hamilton Hospital. He is the past Chairman of the Hospital Board; served as Chairman of the initial Hamilton Hospital Fund Drive in 1971; was Vice Chairman of Community and Public Affairs and Chairman of the Professional Affairs Committee. He was a me mber of the Joint Conference and Quality Assurance committee, as well as the Staff Development Committee of the hospital.

The Trentonian, Lawrence "Larry" Smith TRENTON - Lawrence "Larry" Smith, 70 of Trenton departed this life on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Hamilton Grove Nursing Home, Hamilton, NJ Born in Kenansville, NC, Lawrence was educated and reared in the Duplin County School District. After high school, Lawrence relocated to Trenton, NJ. He gained employment as a mover with the Manning's Moving and Storage (Mayflower), and later retired from Hubsch Moving and Storage (Red Ball). Lawrence accepted Christ at an early age at the Smith Chapel Baptist Church. Predeceased by his parents, Lawton Smith and Martha Outlaw Smith surviving are one daughter, Andrea B. The Trentonian, Barbara LaRie Dean NEW HOPE, PA. - Barbara LaRie Dean, 78, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2013 at home. Barbara was born in Solebury, PA and resided in New Hope, PA for over 50 years. She was a graduate of New Hope Solebury H.S. and worked as a supervisor for the State of NJ Taxation for 35 years and in addition, she worked alongside her mother and stepfather in their catering business, Morris Pratt Catering of New Hope, for many years until they retired. Daughter of the late Harvey Dean and Elva and Morris Pratt she is survived by are her two daughters, Deidra Washington of Trenton and Wanda Washington Green of Maryland, 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at The Second Baptist Church of Doylestown, 6055 Swamp Road, Fountainville, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.

The Trentonian, Ambrose Chinedu Ezeigbo EWING - Ambrose Chinedu Ezeigbo, 56, died on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. Born in Gboko, Benue State, Nigeria, he was a resident of Ewing for more than 20 years. He graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and was a truck driver for Atkinson Freight Lines, Bensalem, PA. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament/Our Lady of the Divine Shepherd Church where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Predeceased by his parents, John and Felicia Ezeigbo, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer; 5 children, Ambrose, Chima, Chukwuka, Nneka and Obiefuna; 3 brothers, Anayochukwu, Chukwuemeka and Ejikeme; 4 sisters, Uzoamaka Ejim, Ngozi Kanu, Oby Okoye and Ebere Ukaegbu and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Wake keeping services will be held on Friday from 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. (midnight) at St. Mary's Cathedral (School Gym), 16 Bank St., Trenton. The Trentonian, BORDENTOWN - Harold Miles, age 81, of Bordentown, NJ passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Virtua Memorial Hospital-Mt. Holly, NJ. Born and educated in Chester, SC. Mr. Miles was employed at Johnstone Training Center and John A. Roebling Steel Mill. At the time of his retirement, he was employed by the Hightstown School District. He was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E Church in Bordentown, NJ where he was very active in the church. Mr. Miles was an U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a former member of the Bordentown Social Athletics Club. Mr. Miles was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Mary Alice Walker-Miles, wife Della Patillo-Miles, step-son Joseph Patillo, brothers Willie Jr., and Cleathern Miles, sisters Viola Dye and Annie Bell Glenn, and nephew Willie Miles.
