The Trentonian, Grace A. Ford HAMILTON - Grace A. Ford, 70, of Hamilton, passed away Friday, January 24, in Robert Wood Johsnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Born in Jersey City, she was a Trenton/Hamilton resident for most of her life. Grace was a retired School Teacher with the Trenton Board of Education for many years and a member of The Italian American Sportsman Club Ladies Auxiliary and a member of St. Raphael/Holy Angels Parish where she was involved with CCD classes for many years. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Paula Fabiano Colaneri; and her husband, Wm. Glynn Ford. Grace is survived by her children, Francis Ford and Lisa of Yardvlle, Maria E. and her husband Jay Johnston of Hamilton; brother and spouse, Nick and Terry Colaneri of East Brunswick; sister and spouse, Maria and Ronald Palumbo of South Carolina formerly of Hamilton, NJ; three granddaughters, Victoria Nicole and Morgan Rae Johnston and Maria Ford; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 29, at 10:15 a.m. from the Gruerio Funeral Home, 311 Chestnut Avenue, Trenton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, 3500 S. Broad Street, Hamilton. -Cremation will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Grace's family on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45-10:15 a.m. at the Gruerio Funeral Home.

The Trentonian, Sidney Schwartz DURHAM, NC. - Sidney ("Sid") Schwartz, 95, a former longtime resident of Trenton, NJ, died on Thursday, December 26, 2013 in the care of Duke Hospice. Born in Philadelphia, PA on Sept. 29, 1918, he was the second oldest of 4 children born to the late Charles Schwartz and Frances Jacobs Schwartz. He was proceeded in death by brothers, Harold and Jerry, and sister, Claire, and his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia L. Hester Schwartz. He is survived by his only child, Mark Hester Schwartz of Durham, who lovingly cared for him for the past eight years, a loving sister-in-law, Sandra Scull of Red Bank, NJ, nieces Sheri Sidun of Oceanport, NJ, Christine Leckie, Phyllis Houck and Amylynne Pocino all of Hamilton Township, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Sid spent most of his life in the Trenton area. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1937. He proudly served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged Aug. 24, 1945 as a result of injuries he suffered. After returning home, Sid worked for the PA Railroad before opening his own real estate business, S. Schwartz & Co., on South Olden Ave. Later in life he went to work for HUD out of the Camden office where he retired in 1985. He was an avid handball player, first at the Trenton YMCA and later in life at the JCC in Ewing Township. He was a passionate Philadelphia Phillies fan and loved to talk baseball. He was a life member of the Elks, VFW and American Legion. A private cremation service was held at Hall-Wynne Crematory in Durham, NC.

SVIREK BASILE, 72, of Cream Ridge, NJ, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Trenton. Born in Trenton, NJ, she resided most of her life in the Trenton area, and for the past twelve years in Cream Ridge. Patti along with her husband Donald owned and operated several Exxon gas stations throughout Mercer and Somerset Counties until her retirement in 2000, and formerly worked for many years in the banking industry. Patti was a lifetime member of the Cathedral Alumni Association, an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagle fan, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. She loved traveling to her home in Arizona, and going to functions and socializing with her friends who reside in Jensen's Deep Run Community. Daughter of the late Peter and Ethel Goncey Svirek; Pattie is survived by her loving husband, Donald G. Basile; her sister and brother-in-law, JoAnne and Charles Armenti; an aunt Irene Lipson; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Anthony and Ann Basile; her nieces and nephews and their spouses, Salvatrice and Glenn Ferraris, Donna and Frank Hunter, Anthony Basile and his companion Donna, Frances Ann and Christopher Hughes, Peter and Megan Armenti; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. The Funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from the Brenna Funeral Home, 340 Hamilton Avenue, Trenton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish/Holy Cross Church, 201 Adeline Street, Trenton. Born in Trenton, NJ, she was a life-long Trenton resident. Theresa retired in 2009 after twenty-two years from the Trenton Board of Education, Trenton, NJ. She enjoyed traveling, trips to Atlantic City but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. Daughter of the late Joseph J. and Frances Petito DiMarcello; mother of the late Thomas Peacock, sister of the late Charles DiMarcello; she is survived by her husband Stephen J. Jones; a son Stephen; three daughters and a son-in-law, JoAnn and William Ward, Jr., Patty Tsilimidos, and Francine Wylie; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph "Butch" and Carol DiMarcello; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and William Hall; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donna and Henry Barber and Keith and Sue Gawron; ten grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. The Trentonian, Dorothy "Dot" Jane Seymour HIGHTSTOWN - Dorothy "Dot" Jane Seymour, 90, of Hightstown, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Princeton Medical Center at Plainsboro, Plainsboro, NJ. Born in Trenton, Dot lived in England with her parents as a child before returning to the USA to Hamilton, NJ. After marriage, she lived in various places in the country prior to settling down in Hightstown, NJ, after her husband's retirement from the USAF. Dot was a graduate of Hamilton High School West and Acadia (Beaver) College in Pennsylvania attaining a B.A. in Spanish, a Minor in French and English, with Highest Honors. She taught Spanish at Pennington High School until she met the love of her life, Charles, while a recruiter for the US Army Air Forces after WWII. After 30 years, when her husband retired from the US Air Force, they settled in Hightstown, NJ. Dot returned to teaching Spanish and English at Steinert High School in Hamilton for 20 years before retiring from the public school system. She could not stay retired from teaching Spanish and taught part-time at The Peddie School in Hightstown for several years. Her love of both teaching and Spanish did not end there as she continued to teach Spanish at the East Windsor/Hightstown Senior Center to her fellow Seniors well into her late 80's. Dot found every opportunity she could to speak Spanish and pass her love of the language on to others. She loved to travel all over the USA with her husband in their RV and often internationally following their retirement. Dancing was their passion, particularly Modern Western Square Dancing and Round Dancing, and they were members of the Masquerader's Square and Round Dance Club, the Mavericks Square Dance Club and Rumbles' Round Dance Club. They were both Officers in the NJ Square Dance Association. Dot was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church of Cranbury, the NJEA, the NJEA Retired Association and the Hightstown Women's Club of which she loved to help at their Annual Dollhouse Show. Burial Office of Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, 90 South Main Street, Cranbury, NJ. The Trentonian, Hattie M. Small TRENTON - Exchanged life for eternity on January 23, 2014. She entered into this life on August 16, 1930 to Milton & Kate Mitchell of White Oak, Ga. She was the youngest of 13 children. She was educated in the White Oak, Georgia school system. Later in life she was united in marriage to Moses Small in West Palm Beach, Fla., and from that union came 4 children. They relocated to Trenton, NJ in the late 40's and began a life together. She retired from the Trenton Board of Education in 2006 after 35 years of service working as a paraprofessional at Stokes School, Trenton High and Joyce Kilmer. She worked the breakfast program early in the mornings, then went into the classrooms for the day and after classes were done for the day she would work in the after school program with the children. She loved her job and was a great mentor to the children that came through the doors. She was a former member of Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church before committing her life to God at the St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church. She was a former dedicated Sunday School, teacher, senior choir member, Deaconess, Life Member Missionary, Stewardess, St. Paul's Caribbean Support Representative for the NJ Annual Conference, Environment team-worker and a former Chairwomen of Unity Day. She loved and supported her church family and her Pastor, Dr. Keith D. Tillett. Her signature song was "Walk with me Lord" and He did. She was known for her love and care to the children of the community and within her church. She was one proud and classy lady! Her legacy will continue to live on through her family. He was educated in the Trenton Public School System and later served in the US Army, from which he received an honorable discharge. Ben was employed by the State of New Jersey Ann Klein Forensic Center (formally known as the Vroom Building) as Supervisor of Security and a Certified Public Manager for 35 years. Ben was predeceased by his parents, Sandy and Lillian Johnson; his son, Andre D. Johnson; his brothers, William and Wade Johnson; and his sister, Clotilda Davis. He is survived by his wife, Ammer Johnson; his daughters, Angela Payne and Deirdre Johnson; his granddaughters, Felicia and Andrea Johnson and Bria Peterson; his great-grandson, Russell Carey; his sisters, Mildred (Ernest) Wormley and Helen Howlett; his sister in-laws, LueDella Powell and Lola Johnson; his brother in-law, Leroy Davis; his uncle, Moses King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born in Trenton, Joey was raised in Hamilton and was a 1978 graduate of Hamilton High School East (Steinert). He moved from Hamilton to Toms River in 2006. He was recently employed by the Lester Glenn Auto Group of Toms River. Joey was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and New York Yankee fan. He loved taking his car to antique auto shows, the beach, lighthouses and spending time on the water, boating and fishing. Joey enjoyed music, especially Jim Morrison and Led Zeppelin. Predeceased by his parents Anna and Anthony J. Arzt, Sr.; Joey is survived by his sister, Joanne Zegarski and her husband, Mark; his niece, Jena Salzano and her husband, Michael; many cousins and dear friends. Born in Chatham, VA, Mrs. Curry was educated in the Asbury Park school system. For many years she was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Elizabeth Chapter. Before her illness she had attended the Mount Zion A.M.E. Church. Alice was a volunteer for L.I.F.T under the late Miss Alma Hill. She was employed at the Skillman Institute, Aberdeen Sportswear, Trenton Sportswear, VNA the Visiting Nursing Association and the Pregnancy Connection, Trenton chapter out of Mercer Medical Center. He imigrated to the United States from Germany Oct. 28, 1955. He was a resident of Yardville most of his life before moving to Columbus in 2003. He became a citizen and proudly served in the US Army. He retired from Sanlar Corp. as a Tool and Die Maker in 2000. He was a life member of the German American Society where he was Past President, he served on the Board of Directors and was Secretary of the GAK Soccer Assn. He enjoyed fishing, collecting beer steins and he was an avid outdoorsman. John was always a Good Samaritan. The Trentonian, Courtlandt F. Parker Ewing - Courtlandt F. Parker, Jr., 77 of Ewing, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26 at Chandler Hall, Newtown, PA., with his loving wife and family by his side. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was a lifelong resident of Ewing. After graduating from Ewing High School in 1955, he served in the National Guard and the US Air Force as an aircraft weapons specialist/electrician on the F-105 fighter aircraft. Courtlandt was an Accredited EMT and served on the Pennington Road Fire Company and First Aid Squad in Ewing for many years. He graduated from the 55th class of the Trenton Police Academy in 1980 and served with the Mercer County Airport Police and Fire Department (Station 34 - Crash Fire Rescue). He rose through the ranks at the Airport Police and Fire Department attaining the rank of Police Sergeant and eventually, Chief of the department. Courtlandt was then promoted and served as the Supervisor of Airport Operations until his retirement in 1999. Courtlandt enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout his life, including hiking, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed travelling and went on many cruises and trips with his family to Florida, Myrtle Beach, Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. He was also fondly known for his ability to build or fix anything and he spent many hours in his beloved workshop. He was best known as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. Son of the late Courtlandt and Sarah Parker; he is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Barbara of Ewing, daughter Beverly Parker of Lawrenceville, daughter and son-in-law Christine and Anthony Battaglia of Hamilton Sq., son and daughter-in-law Brian and Penny Parker of Harbourton; his grandchildren Ryan and Tabitha Battaglia of Hamilton Sq., Brianna Parker of Lawrenceville, Johnathon Parker and wife Danielle of Towson, MD, Matthew Parker and his girlfriend/honorary granddaughter Adrian Dorow of Harbourton; his sister and brother-in-law Marianne and Roger Emmert of Piqua, OH, his aunt Claire Harding of Florence, many nieces and nephews; his beloved Jack Russell Terrier Duke; and his many wonderful neighbors and friends. Born in Mechanicsville, MD, Mr. Holt was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School and continued his education at Mercer County Community College. He was an honorably discharged United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and served as a paratrooper with 49 jumps. Born in Chadburn, NC, Clara was educated in the Mullens, SC Public School System. She also earned a nursing degree. Clara was employed at St. Frances Medical Center, North Princeton Developmental Center, and Emily Fisher High School before retiring from Trenton Psychiatric Hospital. She was also a member of Galilee Baptist Church. Predeceased by her parents, Luke Spencer and Elizabeth Hayes; grandparents, Jack and Susan Hayes; and a brother, John H. Born in Trenton, Chevin graduated from Trenton Central High School and later attended Mercer County Community College. Chevin played baseball for the Chambersburg Baseball League from which he received numerous awards for his outstanding talent. Chevin was predeceased by his maternal Grandparents, Wilford and Blanche Burgess, of Sumter, South Carolina. A kind and loving man, Chevin is survived by his beautiful Son, Cayden Burgess; his loving and devoted Mother, Chanise Burgess, and his Father Kevin B. Mackins; his Brother, Antwan P. The Trentonian, Eugene Stafford, Sr. PLAINFIELD - Eugene Stafford, Sr., 67, of Plainfield, NJ departed this life on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Born in Trenton, NJ, Eugene lived in the Trenton and Plainfield areas for most of his life. He was a 1964 graduate of Trenton Central High School and attended Mercer County Community College for one semester before enlisting into the United States Marine Corp. He became a Marksman, served in the Vietnam War, was discharged with Honors from the Marine Corp and received the Purple Heart accommodation medal. In the late 1970's, Mr. Stafford was employed by Prudential Life Insurance Company as an Insurance Agent for several years, and later worked at the State of New Jersey Taxation Department as a Security Guard. He also worked for Rick Bus Co. Before enlisting into the service, Mr. Stafford married the former Sheila Hedgepath Williams. He is survived by two sons: Eugene Stafford, Jr. ("Melonia") and Curtis Hedgepath-Stafford ("Tara"); three sisters: Rev. Geraldine Stafford (his twin) of West Windsor, NJ, Mrs. Mildred Omar of Washington, DC, and Ms. Virginia Livingston of Trenton; one brother: Leroy Stafford, Sr. of Bridgewater, MA; one aunt: Elizabeth Livingston; 14 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be Friday at 12 noon at Campbell Funeral Chapel 1225 Calhoun St. Trenton, NJ 08638. Interment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
